Pavel Smertin

Pavel Smertin is a Russian photographer, a disciple of the famous theoretician and educator Alexander Lapin. In his artistic practice, he refuses any kinds of applied photos, it is important for him to say more than just to show to the viewer the subject, material, but to express the meaning behind them. The works from the “Genesis” series were created between 2007 and 2018. The name comes from the Latin name of the Old Testament Genesis. With the help of a motion-creating composition, light and shadow, which literally mix in pictures, symbolizing the biblical separation of heaven and earth, Pavel Smertin conveys a sense of observation of the cosmic process of creating the World. Through the image, the artist manages to create a sense of evidence of the amazing, large-scale moment of the universe’s birth.

Vera Trofimova

IT ALL STARTED AND NEVER END

Vera Trofimova, a young artist, graduated from the faculty of graphics, the Repin State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In her first personal exhibition in the gallery Inner Voice, she presents a series of objects and graphics. Vera uses plastic, creating shapes that are felt by living organic beings or plants, each of the created particles is unique, together they create bizarre forms, simultaneously similar to what we can see in nature, but not represent anything existing. The layers of graphics and deformed plexiglass enhance the effect of the microcosm, creating spaces for living ductile lines. The whole series of works addresses the question: what is life, where does it go and why does all this exist?

As a project exhibition intentionally hasn’t any accompanying text. The term itself supposes direct translation of an image from an artist to the viewer. I think that creativity is a research process, same as science, but in the area of feelings. And conclusions aren’t verbal but emotional. And this emotional perception is conclusion too.
